Two time defending champion UNB Varsity Reds are set to host the ACAA Women's Rugby final at 1pm on Saturday, Nov. 4th at College Field in Fredericton, against their cross campus rivals St. Thomas University Tommies.
UNB finished first during the regular season posting a perfect 6-0 record. St. Thomas finished in 2nd place with a 4-2 record. STU were they only team to score points on UNB during the regular season.
STU advanced to the final by virtue of their semi-final win over 3rd place Mt. A on October 28, posting a convincing 44-13 win over the Mounties.
Coach Meghan Morrison was pleased with the semi-final win against Mt. A and is looking forward to the match against UNB. "We came out with some pretty good energy at the start," Morrison said. "I saw a lot of the things we've been working on the past couple of weeks, so I was pleased for sure. We've been building over the whole season and we're still building," Morrison said. "Every time we play UNB we get a little better, and we're better since we last played them."
In their two meetings in the regular season, the Varsity Reds topped the Tommies 15-0 and 27-12.
Varsity Reds Head Coach Kevin Wilson is pleased with his season so far, "we are very pleased to have had another undefeated season at 6-0 and are looking forward to the match on Saturday for the ACAA Championship and the, "Battle of the Hill"."
