BADMINTON HEAD COACH
PART-TIME POSITION
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, Recreation and Wellness, the Badminton Head Coach is responsible for performing all coaching duties consistent with the operation of a successful inter-collegiate sport program.
Duties
- Manage the varsity badminton program including student athletes, manager, and assistant coaches.
- Prepare daily and weekly practices and competition strategies.
- Advise student athletes as well as monitor athletic performance: arrange individual athlete meetings to analyze performance as well as to set and help achieve goals.
- Prepare and monitor off-season training programs.
- Work respectfully, cooperatively, and collaboratively with the Varsity Athletics Coordinator and other Athletics staff as required.
- Prepare and manage team non-conference budget and fundraise when necessary.
- Develop and execute a recruitment strategy.
- Prepare a year-end report of the varsity badminton program and establish new goals for the new season.
- Attend Department Athletic meetings and seminars for professional development.
- Adhere to ACAA, CCAA, and UNB policies and procedures.
- Organize and coordinate all exhibition competition each year.
- Responsible for supervision of the student-athletes on road trips.
- Serve as Head Coach of the Summer Sport Camps program when possible.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
General Aspects of Program
- The Seawolves compete in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
- The season runs from September to the ACAA playoffs in February with CCAA National Championships early March.
- The team practices a minimum of three times a week (1.5 hours/practice).
- Support personnel include up to two paid part-time assistant coaches.
Requirements/Skills:
- Undergraduate degree with a minimum of three years experience in coaching badminton and administering elite level athletes and programs.
- NCCP competition development trained, as well as a commitment to meet the Safe Sport and Responsible Coaching Movement requirements.
- The ability to work within the university environment and with the public at large is essential.
- Must have superior organizational skills, an ability to recruit throughout Atlantic Canada, a desire to build alumni support and a commitment to the total development of the student athlete.
- Experience playing and/or being involved within a high-performance environment is considered an asset.
Salary
- In accordance with UNB honorarium rates.
