The 2019 Atlantic Collegiate Athletics Association soccer season is set to begin in one week and training camps at the eight member institutions are in full swing.
The ACAA defending champion Holland College Hurricanes, will open their season at home when they host the St. Thomas University Tommies on Saturday, September 7 at 3:00 p.m. With a healthy mix of returning players and recruits the Hurricanes are eager to improve upon last year’s performance on the national stage. “We’re not satisfied with just being an ACCA team at nationals. We are hungry to prove we can compete,” says head coach Jonathan Vos. The Hurricanes are approaching the season game by game. “The challenge will be finding the right balance to make sure we play up to our abilities,” says Vos. “Most of our returning players play down the middle of the park; centerback, center-mids and goalkeeper. This will keep the ‘spine’ of the team strong and we will add the pieces around it”.
Other ACAA opening weekend matches that day include the UNB Saint John Seawolves at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams at 4:00 p.m. and the University of Kings College Blue Devils hosting the Crandall University Chargers at 4:00 p.m.
The 2019 ACAA Soccer Championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. Holland College and the Hurricanes host this event featuring the top four teams from the men’s and women’s ACAA regular season standings. The winners will secure the ACAA title and earn a berth to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national championships. For more details on this event, visit acaa.ca.
