The UNB Reds are looking to extend their dominant streak to five consecutive ACAA Women’s Rugby banners as they take on cross campus rival the St. Thomas Tommies at 2pm on College Field, November 2nd.
The Reds once again came through the regular season undefeated and the favorites to repeat for the fourth time.
Despite the current streak, Head Coach Kevin Wilson is not dwelling on the past, “We don’t dwell on our four year banner streak, and we focus on the present and try to emulate the past.”
He also was quick to point out how his team has great respect for the Tommies and feels that it will be a great match. “We need to play the best game of our season. Everyone needs to step up and play the way that we know they are capable of doing. Our veterans need to lead the way, they know what needs to done. We have great respect for our opponents in the Battle of the Hill game, and encourage everyone to attend and show their support.”
As for the Tommies with first year Head Coach Mary Kim Schriver commented that they are a committed group and have made positive strides this year.
“This season has been full of learning opportunities for everyone on the team, and I am no exception. We set out goals at the beginning of the season, and it's been exciting to see the areas of focus in practice be implemented in game situations. These ladies are committed to seeing this through to the end with a hopeful banner at the end to show their hard work”.
Regardless of the outcome, it has been an exciting season of Rugby in the ACAA and will be another great final.
