Blue Devils Secure Vital Home Opener

The 2024-25 ACAA Women's Volleyball season got underway with a marquee matchup in Halifax, featuring a rematch of the 2023-24 Championship final between the UKC Blue Devils and Mount Allison Mounties. Albeit on the first match of the season, the game itself can be considered an instant classic for ACAA volleyball fans; with two of the four sets going past 25, and three sets being decided by three points or less.

The Blue Devils took an early but narrow lead, closing out the first set 27-25 over their New Brunswick visitors. The Mounties would rally in the second set and cruise to an 25-18 win, the most one-sided set of the match. The third set would go the way of the Blue Devils, 26-24, before a decisive 4 set wherein King's managed to pull away for a 25-23 win, securing the match win on their home opener.

Mounties standouts Ana McCain, Erica Astephen, and Marie Forgarty combined to lead the Mount Allison offense, all recorded double-figure kills in their season opener, supported by 24 assist from setter Logan Tait. McCain and Fogarty also posted double figure blocking stats, tallying 11 & 10 respectively.

The Blue Devils All-Star Frances Cooke notched a match high 22 kills for the UKC offense, with Maddie Dever and Elena Neufeld recorded 9 and 7 respectively in their return to the King's hardwood. Elsewhere, Senior setter, Claire Davis recorded a match high 30 assist for the multi-tooled UKC attack. UKC Rookies Jane McLean and Avalon Legault also received meaningful minutes in their first ACAA appearances with the Blue Devils.
