Seawolves beat Tommies in straight sets to advance to championship game
The University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves will play for the ACAA championship on Sunday after taking down the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies in a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement.

The game was hard fought with both teams trading points throughout all three sets, but the firepower of the Seawolves proved to be too much for the Tommies to handle.

The first set started as a battle, both teams were trading points, and neither side would find themselves up by more than two points until the Seawolves made it 15-12. But the Tommies would bounce right back and get two points in a row, cutting the Seawolves lead to one. The Seawolves would eventually lead 20-16, but the Tommies wouldn't give up. They got the lead to within one point again at 20-19. Although they almost tied the set, STU wouldn't score another point, and UNBSJ would run away with it and win 25-20.

The second set started the same, with great back-and-forth action. The teams found themselves tied at 12. After an impressive run by the Seawolves, they found themselves up 15-12 which forced the Tommies to call a timeout. The Seawolves wouldn't let up after the timeout and they started to increase their lead. The Tommies tried to make it close, but they just couldn't close the gap. UNBSJ would win the second set 25-18.

Now needing to win each set, the Tommies came out strong in the third, pulling away to a commanding 5-0 lead. The Seawolves needed a momentum swing, and they got it when Kate Mcleod delivered a lethal kill which energized the Seawolves players and fans. UNBSJ would go on a 7-1 run and take a 7-6 lead. From that point on, the game was back and forth, each team traded points and neither team could get a two-point lead. With the set tied 18-18 the Seawolves got the next two points, forcing the Tommies to take their last timeout. It didn't work, as the Seawolves won the next five points, eventually winning the set, and the match, off of a service ace by Sydney Flower.

Flowers was awarded Seawolves Player of the Game honours after recording seven kills, three service aces, and three digs. Amy Carey led UNBSJ with 33 assists. Dominique Gendron led the team with 15 digs.

Ava Slipp earned Tommies Player of the Game Honours after having five kills, two service aces and two digs. Jenna Murphy led the team with 18 assists. Brooke Thompson led with 18 digs.

The Seawolves will face the Mount Allison Mounties for the 2025 ACAA Volleyball championship at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The Mounties won two of the three game regular season series between the two teams.
