The Hurricanes hosted the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday at the Macmillan Centre, in ACAA Women's Volleyball action.
The Mounties took a commanding lead in the first set, leading 20-12. The Hurricanes showed their spirit, going on a 5-0 run to pull the game back. With the score at 24-23, the Mounties took a timeout to regroup. While they were close, the Canes just fell short in the first set, losing 25-23.
In the second set, the Canes had a hard time dealing with the Mounties' strong offensive pressure. Losing the second set 25-20.
The Mounties dealt with a lot more pushback in the third set with back-and-forth action the entire set. Fourth-year Jenna O'Neill (Cornwall, P.E.I.) delivered the final kill to win the set 25-21.
The Mounties finished their final set strong. Winning 25-13, beating the Canes 3-1.
The key players for the Hurricanes were Myah Utrosa who had 9 kills, and 2 blocks, with 2 aces, Jenna O'Neill who had 7 kills, with 3 aces, and finally, Marissa O'Donnell who had 22 assists.
The key players for the Mounties were Marie Fogarty, who had 10 kills, Erica Astephen, who had 9 kills and an impressive 5 aces, and Logan Tait, who had 5 kills, 34 assists, and 2 digs.
The Hurricanes (7-8) will look to bounce back on Jan. 25 when they travel to Moncton, N.B., to play the Crandell Chargers (3-10).
