Hurricanes defeat Blue Devils

The Holland College Hurricanes hosted the UKC Blue Devils on Sunday at the McMillan Centre, in ACAA Women's Volleyball action.

 

The Canes took the first set 25-18. 

 

The Blue Devils suffered from errors in the first set costing them important points late into the game.

 

The Canes took the second set 25-19

 

The Hurricanes went up six points in the second set (15-9) and seemed like they were going to easily coast to another won set. The Blue Devils responded well, scoring six unanswered, and keeping the game close at 20-17 for the Canes. Although it wasn't enough and the Canes went up two sets. 

 

The Canes won a close third set 26-24

 

The Canes were down 23-17 and it seemed like the Blue Devils would easily win. After a timeout called by coach Hoskins managed to make an incredible comeback. Tying the game 24-24. The Canes quickly scored both points, winning the game with a great block by Charlotte Sweetapple and Abby Macdonald.

 

The key players for the Hurricanes were Jenna O'Neill with 12 kills, Charlotte Sweetapple with six kills and three block assists, and Marissa O'Donnell with 24 assists.

 

The key players for the Blue Devils were Frances Cooke with eight kills, Ella Walsh with four kills and three assists, and Jane McLean with 18 assists.

 

Both teams look to end their season in the win column as the ACAA Women's Volleyball Regular Season comes to a close.

 

The Hurricanes take on the UNBSJ Seawolves next Saturday, on February 15, at the Holland College McMillan Centre for Community Engagement.
